BOSTON (WHDH) – The Boston Faculty Committee is transferring ahead with plans to shutter colleges, impacting three excessive colleges and one elementary college.
For months, mother and father and educators have protested the proposal, however committee members argued that this determination is what might be greatest for Boston college students in the long term.
Underneath the plan, 4 colleges will merge and two will merge after the 2025-2026 college 12 months, affecting about 1,300 college students.
The faculties closing are Dever Elementary Faculty in Dorchester, Excel Excessive Faculty in South Boston, Group Academy in Dorchester, and the Mary Lyon Pilot Excessive Faculty in Allston-Brighton.
BPS Directors mentioned these colleges are usually not able to providing a full vary of companies to college students and have too few college students for the dimensions of the buildings.
Superintendent Mary Skipper mentioned the closures and merger will save the district about $20 million, which might be reinvested into colleges and lecture rooms.
